Join with Oxfam and call for action on climate change

What’s happening?

The Cabinet is set to decide Australia’s future climate targets and the Prime Minister needs to hear from us who want the government to do the right thing by families and farmers.

“The wrong choice — climate inaction — means choosing a future where the impacts of extreme weather events, like Tropical Cyclone Pam, are intensified.” – Oxfam

Oxfam’s efforts

Oxfam took action outside Parliament House, where they were joined more than 50 civil society organisations in calling for urgent action on climate change. Read the joint open letter to the government here .

“International momentum towards a strong and effective global climate agreement is building by the day. And we need to make sure we’re not being left behind by the rest of the world. Climate change is one of the biggest threats to ending global hunger.” –  Oxfam

Supporting Oxfam

The Wishing Well was established in 2010 to offer children in out-of-home care, such as foster care and residential care, a range of healing and treatment options usually not accessible as a free therapy in mainstream health.

The Wishing Well raises funds to enable children and young people to access developmentally-appropriate and trauma-informed treatments shown to be highly effective in dealing with severe trauma and neglect. These therapies respond to the unique needs of each child and young person.

The Wishing Well is a not-for-profit incorporated charity organisation, established and managed by people seeking to improve outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care and their families. The Wishing Well recognises the importance of the act of giving. We recognise the significance of the participation of community members and all donations are most appreciated.

The Wishing Well operates ethically, effectively and empathically with a view to achieving quality outcomes and a satisfying working environment, and as such we support organisations that encompass similar ideals.

The Wishing Well gratefully receives donations, funding and resources through bequests, corporate partnerships, fundraising events, grants, online donations and other fund raising activities. Money donated to The Wishing Well enables traumatised children access to healing therapies. Please see our website for more information:

How you can help

You can add your voice to the cause in a number of ways. Ring the PM’s office and let your thoughts be known. Oxfam have compiled a number of different things you could say, including;

  • I, along with millions of Australians, want to my government take real leadership on climate. Now is the time to move with the rest of the world and take the bold action required
  • Climate change is a major threat in the fight against poverty and hunger. We know that climate change is hitting poorer countries the hardest, and that Australia needs to do more.
  • The science is clear! Australia should cut our emissions by at least 40% below 2000 levels by 2025 and at least 60% by 2030, and aim to reach zero emissions well before mid century.
