You can help stop climate change

What’s happening?

Climate change is one of the biggest threats to our chances of winning the fight against hunger. Climate change refers to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions. The scientific consensus on climate change is “that climate is changing and that these changes are in large part caused by human activities,” and it “is largely irreversible.” Climate change affects some of the poorest people like Santos, who lost most of his crops to flooding.

Australia is failing the climate leadership test and risking a future of devastating impacts for Australians and communities around the world. Australia’s proposed post-2020 targets are inconsistent with the internationally agreed goal of limiting warming to 2°C above pre-industrial levels. They will leave Australia with among the highest per capita emissions and most pollution intensive economy in the developed world.

The science is clear: to safeguard our future and do the right thing by vulnerable communities around the world who are already feeling the very real impacts of climate change, Australia must achieve zero emissions as soon as possible.

Oxfam’s efforts

On 16 October, Oxfam are asking you to stand with Santos, with our sisters and brothers in the Pacific, and with millions of people across the globe who are working together towards a brighter, cleaner and fairer world, where everybody has enough to eat.

Supporting Oxfam

The Wishing Well was established in 2010 to offer children in out-of-home care, such as foster care and residential care, a range of healing and treatment options usually not accessible as a free therapy in mainstream health.

The Wishing Well raises funds to enable children and young people to access developmentally-appropriate and trauma-informed treatments shown to be highly effective in dealing with severe trauma and neglect. These therapies respond to the unique needs of each child and young person.

The Wishing Well is a not-for-profit incorporated charity organisation, established and managed by people seeking to improve outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care and their families. The Wishing Well recognises the importance of the act of giving. We recognise the significance of the participation of community members and all donations are most appreciated.

The Wishing Well operates ethically, effectively and empathically with a view to achieving quality outcomes and a satisfying working environment, and as such we support organisations that encompass similar ideals.

The Wishing Well gratefully receives donations, funding and resources through bequests, corporate partnerships, fundraising events, grants, online donations and other fund raising activities. Money donated to The Wishing Well enables traumatised children access to healing therapies. Please see our website for more information:
