Join with Greenpeace to stop oil drilling in a whale nursery

What’s happening?

The Great Australian Bight supports thriving marine ecoystems and is home to countless unique species – most are found nowhere else in the world. Sharing the Bight’s waters are endangered southern right whales. Almost hunted to extinction in the 19th century, their population is still recovering. On top of imminent threats to their hearing from Seismic blasting, an oil spill in the Bight could devastate their survival. Oil and whales simply don’t mix.

Greenpeace’s efforts

Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation that uses non-violent direct action to expose global environmental problems and to force solutions which are essential to a green and peaceful future. Their goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity. Their core values are;

Independence: they do not accept money from governments, corporations or political parties.

Bearing witness: their peaceful protests work to raise awareness and bring public opinion to bear on decision-makers.

Non-violent direct action: they strongly believe that violence in any form is morally wrong and accomplishes nothing.

Desperate oil companies are looking to ever more extreme and dangerous locations to drill, in a reckless bid to exploit oil that we can’t afford to burn. From the pristine Arctic to the majestic Great Australian Bight, people have begun to break the stranglehold of Big Oil. But we still need your help to kick them out for good. Together, we can stand up to greedy oil companies like Statoil and Chevron.
