Join with Save the Children to end violence against children living on the streets
What’s happening?
Children are forced to live on the streets for various reasons. Some are escaping violence at home, others have no home at all. But they are all being forced to grow up too fast.
“For children living on the streets, hide and seek is a dangerous game. Tonight, a young boy will lay a sheet of newspaper on the concrete floor of a dusty train station. His bed for the night. He can only hope he’s well hidden from the dangers that lurk in the shadows.” – Save the Children
Child traffickers, violent gangs and sexual predators all prey on children who are alone, sleeping on the streets. This is no place for a child.
Save the Children’s efforts
Save the Children is one of Australia’s largest aid and development agencies dedicated to helping children. They work hard to protect children from harm and help them access quality education and health services. With more than 90 years working with children, they are at the forefront of saving children’s lives when disasters strike and create lasting change for children and their families through their long-term development programs.
How you can help
With your support, Save the Children can reach more children and protect them from the dangers of life on the streets. You can help give these children the childhood they deserve – free from violence, abuse and harm.

The Wishing Well was established in 2010 to offer children in out-of-home care, such as foster care and residential care, a range of healing and treatment options usually not accessible as a free therapy in mainstream health.
The Wishing Well raises funds to enable children and young people to access developmentally-appropriate and trauma-informed treatments shown to be highly effective in dealing with severe trauma and neglect. These therapies respond to the unique needs of each child and young person.
The Wishing Well is a not-for-profit incorporated charity organisation, established and managed by people seeking to improve outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care and their families. The Wishing Well recognises the importance of the act of giving. We recognise the significance of the participation of community members and all donations are most appreciated.
The Wishing Well operates ethically, effectively and empathically with a view to achieving quality outcomes and a satisfying working environment.
Support the Wishing Well
The Wishing Well uses its funds to help children in need access all manners of developmentally-appropriate and trauma-informed treatments. The Wishing Well takes referrals for any child/young person in out-of-home care in NSW. Applications are assessed by qualified personnel and on a case-by-case basis. The decision to fund an application is affected by the following:
- Funding availability

- The capacity and willingness of the Carer Household to support the child/young person
- Assessment, which recommends and supports the proposed therapy as relevant to meeting the particular needs of the child/young person

Join with Avaaz to help stop the Rohingya community and their children from being murdered
What’s happening?
Right now in Burma, the Rohingya community is being hunted down by rampaging bands of soldiers hellbent on murder. 800,000 people are dead and they are even beheading tiny children. But here’s the craziest thing — the military behind this massacre is supported by countries like Britain, Germany and Italy! Burma’s generals have spent years building these alliances.
Avaaz’s efforts
Avaaz members directly lobbied the British Foreign Minister, and the UK has just announced it will stop supporting the Burmese military.
Avaaz empowers millions of people from all walks of life to take action on pressing global, regional and national issues, from corruption and poverty to conflict and climate change. The Avaaz community campaigns in 15 languages, served by a core team on 6 continents and thousands of volunteers. They take action — signing petitions, funding media campaigns and direct actions, emailing, calling and lobbying governments, and organizing “offline” protests and events — to ensure that the views and values of the world’s people inform the decisions that affect us all.
How you can help
Let’s demand our governments end their support until the slaughter is stopped. Let’s turn up the heat, pushing Italy, Germany, Austria and more to do the same. Help end the Rohingya massacre — sign now!
“We are horrified by the brutal crackdown on the Rohingya people by Burma’s military. We call for an immediate suspension of financial and training support for Burma’s military and government until the violence against this community is stopped, those responsible brought to justice, and the government begins a process to end the stateless limbo and religious scapegoating of these persecuted people.”

Join with Unicef to support children through the South Asia floods
What’s happening?
Massive floods have swept through Bangladesh, Nepal and India and thrown 16 million children into crisis. Intense monsoonal rains have inundated villages, claimed more than 1,200 lives and washed away everything children need to stay safe and healthy. Families have lost their homes, children have lost their schools and entire communities have lost their only source of safe drinking water. The floods have destroyed crops, killed livestock and washed away people’s only way of making an income. Without enough decent food to eat, children are facing the deadly threat of malnutrition.
Unicef’s efforts
UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund, a leading global humanitarian and development agency that works to uphold the rights of every child. Established in 1946 in the aftermath of World War II, they now operate in more than 190 countries and territories. Their work aims to help all children — especially the most disadvantaged and marginalised— to lead safe, healthy lives and realise their full potential.
How you can help
Unicef simply doesn’t have the supplies they need to reach every child in danger. You can help them go further, faster and save children’s lives in Bangladesh and Nepal.

Join with Save the Children to save Yemen’s children from the world’s worst cholera outbreak
What’s happening?
Weak, malnourished and caught up in a brutal conflict, Yemen’s children are now faced with the world’s worst cholera outbreak. More than one million children under five in Yemen are at risk of cholera. It’s the worst recorded outbreak anywhere in the world, and it’s hitting children the hardest. Most worrying is how the outbreak will impact children who are already malnourished and who are living where the outbreak is the worst, like Al Hali in Hodeidah, which has Yemen’s highest number of cholera cases.
Save the Children’s efforts
Save the Children is on the ground in Yemen. Despite difficult conditions and barriers to aid reaching people in need, they have been able to set up cholera treatment centres and distribute medical supplies and oral rehydration kits. They have also been able to reach children and their families with education about the causes of cholera, and how to stay safe.
How you can help
Save the Children needs your help to open more life-saving cholera treatment centres, train health workers and community volunteers, and to provide sanitation and hygiene supplies, including chlorine tablets, oral rehydration salts, water storage tanks and hygiene kits. You can also help efforts to raise awareness among communities about effective ways to prevent the further spread of cholera.

Join with Amnesty International to stop the Nicaraguan government from forcing families from their homes
What’s happening?
Thousands of people in Nicaragua could be removed from their homes at any minute because of plans to build a huge canal that will divide Nicaragua in two, and cross the most important freshwater source in Central America. This includes families with young children, being forced to leave their homes.
In 2013, the Nicaraguan Government signed a secret multi-billion dollar deal with a private company based in Hong Kong. As part of this deal the government passed Law 840 that may lead to the forced eviction of thousands of people to make way for the canal and a number of related sub-projects. For thousands of families with young children, this means having to forcibly abandon their land and way of living which are their basic form of survival. Congress passed the law without consulting those that would be affected. By doing this the Nicaraguan government violated national and international law.
Amnesty International’s efforts
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who take injustice personally. They are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. They investigate and expose the facts, whenever and wherever abuses happen. They lobby governments, and other powerful groups such as companies. Making sure they keep their promises and respect international law.
By telling the powerful stories of the people they work with, they mobilize millions of supporters around the world to campaign for change and to stand in defence of activists on the frontline. They support people to claim their rights through education and training.
How you can help
Despite facing threats and harassment many of those affected have built a movement demanding that the law 840 be repealed. You can join Amnesty International and support these groups in their fight to keep their homes. Sign the petition and call on the government to:
- Repeal Law 840 to comply with human rights standards and prevent forced evictions
• Guarantee genuine and effective consultation with all those likely to be affected by the construction of the canal.
