What’s happening?

Extreme inequality is one of the defining issues of our time, and it is getting worse. Today, just 62 individuals have the same wealth as the poorest half of the world. The richest 1% now have more wealth than the rest of the world combined. Power and privilege is being used to skew the economic system to increase the gap between the richest and the rest. A global network of tax havens further enables the richest individuals to hide $7.6 trillion. The fight against poverty will not be won until the inequality crisis is tackled.

Tax is one essential tool to ending extreme inequality, and could help lift millions of people out of poverty. Tax revenues collected by governments here and around the world are key to providing public services like healthcare, education and transport infrastructure for everyone – we all rely on the public services funded by tax.

Yet tax dodging by big business and the mega rich is driving this extreme inequality, costing developing countries at least $100 billion every year.

Oxfam’s efforts

Oxfam is calling on leaders to take action to show they are on the side of the majority, and to bring a halt to the inequality crisis by ending tax dodges and sharing the tax burden fairly to level the playing field: by shifting the tax burden away from labour and consumption and towards wealth, capital and income from these assets; increasing transparency on tax incentives; and introducing national wealth taxes.

Join with Oxfam in calling on our government to end tax dodging by big business, starting by demanding transparency from companies about how much they make and where.

Supporting Oxfam

The Wishing Well was established in 2010 to offer children in out-of-home care, such as foster care and residential care, a range of healing and treatment options usually not accessible as a free therapy in mainstream health.

The Wishing Well raises funds to enable children and young people to access developmentally-appropriate and trauma-informed treatments shown to be highly effective in dealing with severe trauma and neglect. These therapies respond to the unique needs of each child and young person.

The Wishing Well is a not-for-profit incorporated charity organisation, established and managed by people seeking to improve outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care and their families. The Wishing Well recognises the importance of the act of giving. We recognise the significance of the participation of community members and all donations are most appreciated.

The Wishing Well operates ethically, effectively and empathically with a view to achieving quality outcomes and a satisfying working environment, and as such we support organisations that encompass similar ideals.

The Wishing Well gratefully receives donations, funding and resources through bequests, corporate partnerships, fundraising events, grants, online donations and other fund raising activities. Money donated to The Wishing Well enables traumatised children access to healing therapies. Please see our website for more information:
